The Nightmare is coming!

Post by IAMCLANWOLF »

Another commision piece. This time for Mr. Zac (Ava Mango)...I give you the Nightmare!...

This is just the first round sketch. It will be a full-blown inked image when we're done.

Comments appreciated as always.

Very nice, I like the use of the Marauder II legs. What are the stats for this beast?

Thanks, although the illustration is based on Zac's bash so I can't take credit for the use of parts, just the illustration itself.

I'll let Zac post stats and pics of his bash. It's one of the most replicated bashes in BT history. If you do a serch for "Nightmare"
you should be able to find stats, and lots of pictures of both Zac's, and other members attempts at the build.

Nightmare NTM-1E

Overview:
Following the devastating FedCom Civil War, the Lyran Alliance was in sore need of replacements for its depleted BattleMech units. Answering the call was Norse-Storm BattleMechs whose highly successful Nightstar design saw heavy action on both sides of the fratricidal conflict. Drawing on the experience of the Nightstar, Norse-Storm engineers submitted a design matching the weapons and performance profiles of the Nightstar but at a lower weight and cost in C-Bills. The cost savings and performance was of great interest to the cash-strapped Lyran government which needed to get the most for its investment.

To aid in the production of the new design dubbed Nightmare, the Lyran government permitted Norse-Storm to solicit additional revenue from outside investors to reduce the financial burden on the Lyran coffers. Several corporations and large mercenary commands contributed to the production of the Nightmare and would receive a return on their investments in C-Bills as well as a percentage of the production units.

Capabilites:
The Nightmare follows in the footsteps of the renowned Marauder series of BattleMechs. The Nightmare is heavier than the Marauder and lighter than the Nightstar, and falls nicely in between the older designs. The Nightmare is powered by a 'Light Fusion' powerplant to reduce costs and decrease vulnerability to combat damage. The primary weapons consist of two Norse-Storm Model 7D Gauss rifles encased in massive armored cowls. Mounted on heavy ball joints these arm weapons have an excellent arc of fire. Four tons of Gauss ammo provide the Nightmare with good battlefield endurance between reloads. The twin Gauss rifles are joined by a Defiance 1001 extended-range PPC for a devastating long-range barrage as well as a backup in the event ammo stores are depleted. Providing close range fire are a trio of extended-range medium lasers mounted in the head and torsos.
In keeping with the Lyran tradition in heavy BattleMech designs, the Nightmare focuses on firepower and armor protection. Wrapped in fifteen tons of armor the Nightmare can absorb more battlefield punishment than many comparable Assault class Mechs. Packing such powerful weaponry and heavy armor protection the maximum speed of the Nightmare is restricted to 54 kph. Although several Assault Mechs boast greater speed, the mix of firepower and excellent protection more than offset a meager increase in speed. To aid in close or rough terrain the Nightmare is also equipped with a jump jet system to increase mobility.

Deployment:
The initial production run of the Nightmare is well underway and the new design is receiving good reviews from the units receiving it. The first shipment of Nightmares was distributed among Lyran Guards and Royal Guards units. Subsequent deliveries were made to investor mercenary commands such as Storm’s Metal Thunder and the Northwind Highlanders.

Variants:
No variants of the Nightmare are yet being produced, but design teams are working on a Full fusion engine variant with a Heavy Gauss equipped arsenal that should be even more economical.

This is a hard mini to draw.
Very challenging with all the angular and round shapes, etc..
The most hard aspect is keeping all the proportions and mini's ratios.
