Some random 'mech Sketches

Post by Eriance »

Hello, I'm new to the forum. Some of my more recent stuff was submitted to the 3063 TRO (Champion, Battlemaster, Vulcan, etc). Just though i post some of the stuff i'm working on my own. :)

Since i've recently started getting serious with mechanicle drawings, I'm currently redrawing the stuff from the old (original) 3055 for practice. Here are a few mechs i redesigned from the old TRO (the catapult is not from there, it's a sketch for the 3063 TRO).

Image

Fireball - Only took the weapon placements. The drawing didn't come out very satisfying, and thus needs to be redrawn, again. Although i did like the arms.

Dart - Nothing special, made the thing lighter looking than the original.

Bandersnatch - the best of the 4. Doesn't look too much like the original (it was originally going to be a redesign of my first battlemech, the "Typhon").

Catapult - Modernized the body parts, although the legs look a bit long. This is a customized version, replaces the LRM-15s with a Large-Laser and a LRM 20.

Nice stuff... IWM ought to hire you to sketch out their new mold work. It'll look a heck of a lot better, not to mention those sketches squash quite a few of the TRO sketches I've seen. I can't stand the ones that have all the little useless wings and protrusions that serve no real purpose.

So, again, good stuff.

Thnak you all for the comments. For those that wish to commission me, all the info and prices can be found here:

However, I dont think I'll be able to take commissions this summer as I have summer school and my own stuff to work on. I'll have to see once summer classes begin and i get a feel for how much homework I get as well as how much of my own projects I will work on.

At fifty bucks each, that would be a sizable cash layout.

Sweet work. I like the BM best, but then I've always been a fan of the design in general. Very nicely done.

Another set of mechs i finished today. Most of these are just my practices, but the "Catapult" is for the 3063 TRO. Redrew the 3063 "Catapult" to make it look more like the official one - egg with legs. Over all design came out fat and cute, but still much better than the taller sketch i made earlier, i think. The first mech, far left, is the redesign of the 3055 "Dart" i did weeks ago. The other two are my own designs, the Apophis redesign and a new one; the "Revenant". Yes the "Revenant" is indeed based on doom 2's revenant. :D

 WOW that Catapult variant lookd great, a little bit heavy looking but you have got the general shape and feelfor the design it looks really good in my opionion, and you have nailed the Dart in one thats about the best art ive ever seen of one and that includes the original TRO art... :D zac
ps: Id really love to see you tackle a couple of reknowned fan custom designs, just to see them come to life so to speak. 8)

BTW, how good of a config is the Apophis? Someone told me it was "inefficient". Since I've never played the table=top game of BT, i have no idea what a good or bad config is. I generally draw and set a mech's stats based on looks and Mechwarrior 4 stuff, which I'm sure doesn't really reflect CBT very well.

The Apophis seems to be a reasonably good solid Clan design for a 70 tonner, i can see it being used as a second line mech without any issues.
The Revenant at 30 tons has a good speed and reasonable armour factor,
Other than the fact that Clan Mechwarriors dont like to go in and do melee combat im dubious about the instalation of the hatchet, also X rated weaponary is basically the Inner Spheres answer to Clan weapon and tech as Clan weaponary and equipment is generally more advanced ie smaller, lighter and has greater range as a rule so i dont think a Clanner would use or opt to use this tech over their own. :) zac

I've a small question about my Apophis mechs stats. Some dude keeps telling me that the config sucks because having a mech with ammo sucks due to ammo explosion. O_o And that having lasers on the arms are bad. I've having trouble grasping his logic.

Also. About Omnimechs. I can switch out any weapon and replace it with any other as long as it fits inside the mech, right?

True with the omni-mechs. As long as you have crit spaces and tonnage, you can use it.

As far as the ammo concerns go, that is the guy's personal opinion. Ammo explosions are a hazard in the game, but less so if you manage your heat and expend your ammo before you start suffering burn throughs in your armor. Of course, you can use case, and then, those are moot points.

Not having the lasers on the arms is, again, personal preference. The arms are usually the first parts of the mech to be destroyed, meaning that any weapons in them are lost as well. However, they are also the parts of the mech that give you your best fire arcs. I wouldn't hang your primary weapons there, just for survivability of the weapon, but there's nothing wrong with putting lasers there.
